Beautiful portraits taken in the comfort of your own home

Session Tips

Family Session Tips:

1. For family, group or engagement portraits please select one color theme and coordinate clothing. Or, everyone can each wear a solid color to blend together. Don't forgot to coordinate socks and footwear. Solid colors are best, busy patterns are distracting.

2. For newborns keep in mind the baby's schedule, what time they eat and sleep, we try to work with you at the session knowing that they can get fussy, causing a delay, and might take longer than a normal session. Most of the photos will be taken with the newborn asleep so try to schedule your appointment when the baby will most likely stay asleep, usually mid-day.

3. Don't wear shimmery lotions or glitter, they do not photograph well.

4. Give your children a snack or feed them before a photo shoot, they will be a lot happier. Have a favorite toy or blanket on hand to use in the portrait, or have several toys for them to play with or to distract them if they start to fuss. At times, children respond better without the parents being in the room. We may ask you to step out for a moment so the child won't be so distracted.

5. Pets should be clean and well groomed. For dogs; take them for a walk or play with them before the photo session, they will be more relaxed and obedient. We will try to work fast with your pet and give them breaks when they need them.

6. Have images on hand you have cut out of magazines or found through other sources. Showing us examples is the best way to communicate about the type of look you want for your portrait.

7. If your child (or anyone) is ill, please reschedule. Children do not photograph well when they are not feeling well.

Maternity Session Tips:

Pregnancy Portraits are best when taken between the 6th and 9th month.

1. Several hours before your maternity shoot, you will want to take off anything that has tight elastic, like undergarments or bras and slacks in order to make sure you don't have marks on your skin.

2. Don't use lotion on your belly, especially the kind to help reduce stretch marks, on the day of your session. The belly will be too shiny and does not photograph well.

3. Tops should be form fitting, at least around the bust line, showing your form is the whole point. You will want something to cover the breasts, yet expose the belly, large men's button up shirts are great.

4. If your jeans don't button up, that is fine, they look nice that way.

5. Limit jewelry to essential items, too much jewelry will be distracting.

6. If you plan on including the father in your images, you will want to coordinate your clothing. Solid colors work best. Avoid bright yellow, red and patterns. Jeans go well together but no shiny belt buckles.

7. Your hands will most likely be showing so don't forget to have a manicure and a pedicure (they may be showing as well). Face powder is always a good idea to eliminate shiny spots. Moisturize knees and elbows but no glittery lotion, it does not photograph well.

8. Eat a light snack before the session.

9. Please allow enough time for your session which can run between 1-2 hours.
